The Gallery: Street Photography

I could not be more thrilled with the theme of The Gallery this week – Street Photography. When I first got my camera, DorkySon was only a few months old. I used to push his pram round and round the streets of Edinburgh until he fell asleep, and then I’d spend a couple of hours snapping away and taking photos of anything and everything around me – buildings, people, parks – whatever was there.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival Royal Mile

I was of course spoiled with the number of street performers who fill the streets during the Edinburgh Fringe. It was much easier to take photos of people doing performances or dressed up in costumes than it was to take photos of ordinary strangers.

A lecturer having a sneaky fag break outside a university building, unintentionally turning himself into the ‘fifteenth pillar’.

Thanks to Tara for prompting me to have a look through some old photos. If you’d like to see what other bloggers have done with the theme, head over to the Gallery at Sticky Fingers.

I agree about the final photo I think it’s great also because you captured it in black and white. I would imagine Edingburgh to be a great place for people snapping x

  4. Herding Cats says:

Gorgeous pictures. I only wish I was brave enough to snap people while out and about

  5. Emma says:

Great pictures! I like the two sat on the door step, reminded me of laurel and hardy at first!

  6. Fantastic photo’s! My favourite is the 15th pillar. I am also a bit nervous about snapping pics of strangers. Do you ever ask permission?
    PS. I’m a Canon girl myself :-)

  7. Oh wow, that is some stunning photography there! Edinburgh is such a beautiful place – my sister lives there, but I just don’t get to see her enough. I have been to the Fringe once and it is totally as you have depicted. Brilliant.

  8. Mama Syder says:

Fab photos. My fav is the two men sitting on the step. Brilliant! x

  9. Mark says:

Great images of Edinburgh – I do the same with paper and pens.

  10. Notmyyearoff says:

The two men on the step look like they’re discussing something a bit hairy. Love the smoking nun!

  11. I love the nun! What a great spot!

  12. Kelly Wiffin says:

    Fantastic photos!

  13. TheBoyandMe says:

Those photos really capture the flavour of Edinburgh during the Fringe, but I’m with you and love the composition and desaturation of the last shot.

  14. Love the 15th pillar! There is a guy I follow on 365project who is the KING of street photography and he had a series of chefs smoking cigarettes. I love your street performers too obviously!

  15. What a fascinating array of pics – really lovely, interesting and varied.

  16. Once again your talent for taking the ordinary and make it look extraordinary makes me wish I was a better photographer. Will just have to keep practising x

  17. Helpful Mum says:

Absolutely stunning photography. Love the variation – and the nun!

  18. Nice arrangements of the montages. Balanced and interesting themselves♫♪
