Ruth Dawkins (DorkyMum) is a Scot living in Hertfordshire, with her American husband (DorkyDad) and four year old DorkySon. She blogs about everything from parenting to politics, and poetry to photography.
DorkyMum occasionally accepts products for review, but does not run advertising or sponsored posts.
She is a finalist in the Outstanding Contribution category at the 2013 MAD Blog Awards, a finalist in the Commentary category at the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Awards, and has been invited to speak on a panel about Bloggers and Charities at BritMums Live 2013.
In 2012 DorkyMum was a finalist in the Fresh Voice category of the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging awards and a finalist in the Best New Blog category of the MAD Awards. She was also selected as one of the speakers for the Blogger Keynote session at BritMums Live 2012, where she read her post Twitter is Like.
DorkyMum has had guest articles on numerous other blogs and websites including Guardian Edinburgh, Save the Children, BritMums, Black Dog Tribe, Bright Green Scotland, and Offbeat Mama. She has been published in the Family section of the Guardian and Easy Living magazine, and featured in the January 2013 issue of Red magazine as part of a roundtable discussion on women and politics. In 2011, she edited the Kids Section of Fest magazine, commissioning and writing reviews of children’s shows at the Edinburgh Festival.
DorkyMum’s photography has been featured on Pioneer Woman, Manfrotto Imagine More, Shutter Sisters, and both BBC and Guardian Online.
Before becoming DorkyMum her previous jobs included: environmental campaigner, MSP candidate, newspaper intern, student union president, climate change ambassador, student journalist, waitress, festival venue front-of-house, and petrol pump attendant.
