You know you spend too much time on Twitter when…

I’ve done a couple of posts recently that seem to have struck a chord with people; You Know You’re a Parent When… and Twitter is Like… I’ve been totally bowled over by the response to both, so thank you very much. It seems that the secret to a successful blog post is having an ellipsis in your blog title, and doing all your writing after several glasses of wine.

It’s the middle of the morning right now, so I’ve not had any wine, but just for a laugh I thought I’d combine the topics of those two posts, and do a quick one called You know you spend too much time on Twitter when… Feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments.

You know you spend too much time on Twitter when… you find yourself agonising about whether to add a dark grit or light grit border to an iPhone picture of your dinner before you tweet it.

You know you spend too much time on Twitter when… you find yourself clicking on a link to see a photo of what someone else is having for dinner.

You know you spend too much time on Twitter when… you sometimes include @neilhimself or @caitlinmoran in a tweet, in the hope of getting that life changing RT.

You know you spend too much time on Twitter when… you meet people at events and don’t know whether to call them by their Twitter handle or their real name.

You know you spend too much time on Twitter when… you know the best times of day to pimp your blog posts.

You know you spend too much time on Twitter when… you find yourself wanting to use hashtags in emails.

You know you spend too much time on Twitter when… you have a folder on your desktop for screenshots of tweets from slightly famous people that mention you. Ahem.

Any others…?

Ellen at In A Bun Dance has kept the You Know You’re A… series going with a great post about being a blogger, and I also hear rumours that Nickie will be doing You Know You’re a Grandparent When… post over at Typecast sometime soon. I can’t wait for that one.

  1. You know you spend too much time on Twitter when the first thing you do after your alarm clock goes off is pick up your phone and check for updates. I don’t ever take my phone into the bathroom though. No never. @slicknic

  2. ffs… I’ll *have* to do that post now!!

You know you’re on Twitter too much when you turn to Twitter rather than Google for a query and no-one points you in the direction of lmgtfy.com

  3. You can spend “too much time on twitter”? Sorry, you’ll have to explain- in 140 characters or fewer with appropriate # tag of course.

  4. Another fab post! I once heard someone say Retweet! Retweet! when he agreed with something a friend was saying. Perhaps that’s one for “You know you should deactivate your Twitter account when…’

    • Oh god, that’s awful and hilarious at the same time! Makes me feel a lot better – I’m a long way from that! Although I do get social network confusion sometimes – I want to RT things on Facebook and Like things on Twitter! Xx

  5. You’re supposed to be watching TV or talking to a family member and you realise after an hour that you haven’t heard a word that’s been said because you’re busy trying to find new friends to follow and read tweets!

  6. Oh dear…I’ve only been on twitter for three days and I am hooked, so far seems like a lovely friendly place🙂
