About DorkyMum

DorkySon-DorkySon-0017

Hello! I’m Ruth Dawkins, a writer from a tiny island in the north of Scotland. I currently live in Hobart, Tasmania with my husband and eight year old son.

If you’re looking for my professional copywriting site, please visit ruthdawkins.net.

If you’re looking for information about this blog, please read on!

DorkyMum is a blog that’s about everything from parenting to politics, and poetry to photography. It’s somewhere to record the details of our family life, but also to write about the causes and campaigns that are dear to my heart. It’s somewhere to share photos and stories about the people and places I love.

If you’d like to explore the blog, there’s a list of my most recent posts down the right hand side. Alternatively you can use the category tabs that run along the very bottom of each page.

I occasionally accept products to review on DorkyMum. I do not run advertising or sponsored posts.

Since I started writing DorkyMum in 2011, I have been a finalist in six national blog awards in the UK, and have twice been a speaker at the BritMums Live conference in London – once as part of a panel discussion about bloggers and charities, and once as a Blogger Keynote.

DorkyMum has been chosen as the Blog of the Week by both Netmums and Mumsnet, as well as featuring on WordPress Freshly Pressed and The Bloggess. My photography has been featured on Pioneer Woman, Manfrotto Imagine More, Shutter Sisters, and both BBC and Guardian Online.

  1. Love the blog – a real tonic ! Bumped into your DorkyMan on George Street today as I was making my way to Hamilton and Inches to pick up my wifes christmas present . Had a chat and was pleased to learn that Save the Children now have the call on his talents.
